The Planning Commission consists of citizen volunteers appointed by the City Council to make decisions or advise the Council on land use and property development issues. The Commission assures that new development is consistent with our long-range General Plan, State laws and other public policies that advance the interests of our community.
The Planning Commission is composed of 7 San Rafael residents who are appointed by the City Council to four-year terms.
The Planning Commission welcomes input on projects from members of the public. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council chambers. Check out our guidelines for meeting protocol.
Upcoming meetings along with agendas, videos and minutes are available online.
For projects that appear before the Planning Commission, a notice of public hearing is mailed to property owners, businesses and residents within 300 feet of a site. Sign up to be notified of all Planning Commission meetings.
Check out our Planning Commission meeting packets.
