Private Property Sewer Backups

If you see raw sewage coming from a mushroom cap or other overflow device next to a  building, it’s most likely a problem in the private sewer lateral – the pipe that connects the property to the public sewer system.

In this case:

  • The property owner is responsible for fixing the issue.
  • The property owner should contact a licensed plumber to inspect and clear the sewer line.

Not the Property Owner?

If you are a tenant, neighbor, or passerby and see a possible sewer leak on private property:

Please call us immediately : (415)454-4001

We will investigate and, if needed, contact the property owner to resolve the issue.
