Sea Level Rise and Climate Action in San Rafael – Forum
5:30pm - 7:30pm
5:30 – 7:30 pm – Downtown San Rafael
Sea level rise is a real and growing threat to Bay Area communities. None are projected to be affected as much as San Rafael in the near term, particularly in the Canal District and downtown areas.
Join Sustainable San Rafael, the City of San Rafael and staff from the San Rafael Sea Level Rise Collaborative to hear about a sea level rise feasibility study the City has in partnership with the County, Canal Alliance, and Multicultural Center of Marin. You’ll get insights into San Rafael’s vulnerabilities, draft alternatives for long-term protection including nature-based opportunities, and near-term community priorities for action. We’ll also touch on countywide projects underway and have lots of time for questions and answers.
CHANGE NOTE: Sara Aminzadeh, Deputy Director of External Affairs for the California Natural Resources Agency is no longer able to make it. However, we have a great panel to talk about Countywide planning efforts as well as Transportation Authority of Marin’s (TAM) sea level rise project. Mikaela Hiatt is the Senior Transportation Planner at TAM. Emily Schwimmer is Associate Principal, Climate Advisory Services at AECOM.
In addition, Sustainable San Rafael’s Student Advisory Committee members will give a brief presentation on their sea level rise project. This is an event not to be missed!
