Whatever you do, DO NOT put your unwanted junk on the street or sidewalk. It is ILLEGAL to dump your unwanted junk, furniture, mattresses, or any garbage on streets, sidewalks, in parks, or anywhere else.
What are my options?
One person's junk is another person's treasure. Consider donating your unwanted items and contact one of the following places that may let you drop it off for donation:
Salvation Army: 350 4th St, San Rafael (415) 454-7201
Goodwill: 809 Lincoln Ave, San Rafael (415) 456-5273
Hospice Hodgepodge: 910 Lincoln Ave, San Rafael (415) 459-4686
Check out this list of where to dispose of or donate items.
Some items aren't worth donating - in this case, you can dispose of your items one of these ways:
- Break down smaller items and put them in the dumpster your apartment complex provides. For larger items, please contact your apartment manager to see what other options they may have.
- If you have a large household item, such as a dryer, couch, or other similar items that requires a special pick-up, please contact Marin Sanitary Service at least 24 hours prior to your service day at (415) 456-2601. Fees apply.
Note: Estimates given over the phone are subject to change after a driver has assessed the load. Please put out your special pick-up at your regular service location the night before or by 6am the day of the collection. These items may also be disposed of at the Marin Resource Recovery Center.
