**ATTENTION: UPCOMING NIGHTWORK**

NIGHTWORK to resume on Sunday, June 5

Motorists are advised to drive with caution and follow all posted directional signals.

For more information on the upcoming lane shifts and nightwork, please read the update below:

THIS WEEK (May 23 – May 27):

  • Marin Municipal Water District (MMWD) waterline service connections installed along Third Street from Lincoln Street to Lindaro Street
  • Completed waterline main tie-ins at Third Street & A Street, Third Street & B Street, and Third Street & C Street
  • Continued potholing to locate existing underground utilities in preparation for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) to install the new fiber optic cable to serve the San Rafael Community Center on B Street
  • Installation of conduit by HDD and installation of splice boxes for the new fiber optic cable to the San Rafael Community Center
  • Started the sanitary sewer replacement by open trench method on Second Street at Ida Street
    • Constructed a new manhole
  • Modification to the left turn pocket at Fourth Street and W. Crescent Drive
  • Traffic lanes were shifted on Second Street between Marquard Avenue and Miramar Avenue
    • Water filled traffic barriers were install in this same section of Second Street
  • Excavation for the new retaining wall on the south side of Second Street between E Street and Miramar Avenue

NEXT WEEK (May 31 – June 3):

  • No work will be performed on Monday, May 31 in observance of Memorial Day
  • Installation of conduit by horizontal directional drilling at the intersection of Third Street & Lootens Place, Third Street & A Street, and Third Street & Brooks Street
    • This will require removing some sections of the sidewalk to excavate boring pits
    • Safe pedestrian walkway will be maintained around these boring pits
  • New waterline main tie-ins will be performed at the intersections of Third Street & Lindaro Street and Third Street & Lootens Place
  • Sanitary sewer rehabilitation:
    • Installation of new sewer pipe, by open trench method, from a manhole at Ida Street and Second Street
    • Trenching for the next two weeks installing sewer pipe in the eastbound lanes of Second Street from Ida Street to Marquard Avenue
  • Drilling piles for the new retaining wall and working in the eastbound curb lane of Second Street between Ida Street and Marquard Avenue
  • Nightwork will resume on June 5, in order to:
    • Pothole to locate existing utilities on Third Street from Lincoln Avenue to Irwin Street
    • Begin waterline installation from San Rafael High School to Irwin Street

IMPACTS:

  • The posted speed limit is 25 mph for the lane shift on Second Street
    • Motorists should be aware of changed conditions and drive with caution
  • Traffic controls (temporary signs, message boards, traffic cones, delineators and detour signs) will be put in place to direct motorists through the work area
  • Curb parking spaces will be marked “No Parking”
  • There will be intermittent lane closures on Third Street and detours on A Street, B Street, C Street, D Street, and E Street
  • For businesses in this section of Second Street, the City’s contractor, Ghilotti Bros. Inc., will help facilitate deliveries by providing traffic controls and flagging
