San Rafael Hires New Library and Recreation Director

SCatherine Quffaan Rafael, CA – Following a nationwide search, the City of San Rafael is pleased to announce Catherine Quffa as their new Library and Recreation Director. Catherine brings nearly 15 years of experience working in both the non-profit sector and local government. Catherine is currently serving as the City’s Assistant Library and Recreation Director and will begin her new position following the retirement of Susan Andrade-Wax in spring 2022.

City Manager, Jim Schutz has worked with Catherine over the past three years, “Catherine has led by example and shown tremendous leadership during her time in San Rafael. We are thrilled that she will continue to share her passion for finding ways to make her hometown a vibrant, inclusive, and community-oriented place to live.” Catherine holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Stanford University and a master’s degree in International Environmental Policy from the Middlebury Institute. Prior to joining the City of San Rafael, Catherine was the Deputy Director at the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. At the Parks Conservancy, Catherine oversaw a department whose mission was to find new and innovative ways for Parks and Recreation departments to serve their community. Catherine also spent several years in Sub-Saharan Africa, first as a Peace Corps volunteer and then as a Program Manager and Director of Programs and Communications for a local non-profit promoting sustainable agriculture. Her time working with these communities helped her create a deep appreciation for the importance of developing programs based on the needs of those she serves.

The nationwide recruitment was conducted by executive search firm Wendi Brown Creative Partners (WBCP). Quffa’s starting salary will be $13,283 per month.
