We wish you all a happy Fourth of July weekend and hope you enjoy the Marin County Fair. This is one of my favorite times of the year in San Rafael.
Don’t drink & drive
Fourth of July celebrations usually include barbeques, picnics, boating, and time spent with family and friends. These summer celebrations often include alcohol and the July 4th period is one of the more dangerous holidays of the year when it comes to alcohol-impaired traffic fatalities. San Rafael Police and a DUI enforcement team will be on the lookout for drunk or drugged drivers who put themselves and others at risk. Police Chief Bishop recommends these simple tips for a safe holiday:
Plan ahead. Arrange rides home for friends, family, and co-workers before the fun begins.
Cut back the amount of drinks you plan to bring to the party – and provide plenty of food.
If you are impaired, use a taxi or Lyft, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation.
If you see dangerous driving, don’t hesitate, Report Drunk Drivers – Call 911!
Fireworks are illegal in Marin County
Also, please remember that fireworks are illegal in Marin County and the penalties for sale and use of fireworks are steep. Police and fire departments throughout the county are on watch for illegal firework activity. Each year people are killed and injured by fireworks. San Rafael has already experienced fireworks-related fires and luckily they were stopped before they grew too large. Please talk to your family and neighbors about the danger of illegal fireworks.
The best way to enjoy fireworks is to go to the Marin County Fair from June 30 through July 4 at 9:30 pm.
