Where can I get updates from the police department in an emergency?

During the North Bay Fires, we saw that some of the normal methods of communication were ineffective. The San Rafael Police Department utilizes several different social media platforms to communicate. The San Rafael Police Department is on Twitter, Facebook, Nixle and Nextdoor. Registering for updates is as easy as signing up with an email address and cell phone number. Sometimes we use social media to share information about arrests, crime trends and community outreach. But, we have seen that it can be an invaluable tool to disseminate current information to a large group of people. We use Nixle to share information in emergencies to advise people to stay away from a particular area due to police activity or other dangerous conditions.

In addition to social media platforms, you can also register your cell phone number at Alert Marin: https://www.marinsheriff.org/services/emergency-services/alert-marin
