Case Number: SR20-06584
For the last few weeks, we have received a number of calls for service at the location of a mural honoring the memory of Breonna Taylor. There has been high tension in the area because there are some individuals who are washing the mural away and other individuals who are remaking the mural in the same location.
On Thursday, September 24, 2020 at about 6:23 pm, San Rafael Police Officers responded to the area of Las Gallinas and Freitas Parkway on the report of a person who brandished a weapon at a crowd of people.
Officers that responded learned that the suspect had a bucket with water and he was washing away the mural. When he was approached by people in favor of the mural, his bucket was kicked over and an argument ensued. At some point during the argument, the suspect brandished a weapon (possibly a handgun or taser) at the group. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
We are asking for help in identifying the suspect in this case. He is described a heavy set white male. On the day of the incident he was wearing a multi-colored cloth face mask, turquoise shirt, khaki pants/shorts, and was carrying a broom and a black bucket. Someone at the location took a picture of him which is at the end of this press release.
Additionally, due to the heightened tensions in the area, the San Rafael Police Department will be placing security cameras in the area. We are hoping these cameras will be a deterrent to criminal activity and will also be helpful in a future investigation if another incident occurs.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call San Rafael Police at (415) 485-3000. Tips can also be made online at http://www.srpd.org/tips.
