The City of San Rafael is aware of reports that federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) may be conducting operations in the San Francisco Bay Area, and possibly within our community. At this time, the City has no specific information about any such activity, as ICE does not coordinate with local law enforcement or share when or where they conduct operations. While there have been reports indicating that San Francisco is no longer the focus of enforcement action, the situation is very fluid, and the City has no information about the federal government’s plans for immigration enforcement.
The San Rafael Police Department (SRPD) remains fully compliant with California State Law and the California Values Act (SB 54). In line with state law and SRPD Policy 414, SRPD does not take part in federal immigration enforcement or use resources for that purpose. SRPD’s mission is to ensure public safety and provide fair, equitable service to all community members. For more information, please view this presentation to the Police Advisory and Accountability Committee here.
The City of San Rafael has prepared a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs). They are available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
The City of San Rafael respects and supports everyone’s First Amendment rights to assemble and express their views. We strongly encourage anyone who chooses to demonstrate to do so peacefully and respectfully.
