Make a difference in a child’s life by volunteering to assist new readers build their skills and confidence and to share your enthusiasm about reading. Volunteers encourage new readers to engage with library books at a new level by assisting with pronunciation, helping with difficult words, introducing new words, posing and answering questions to increase comprehension and general concepts. Our new readers are generally children in elementary school. Inquire today!
Time Commitment: Volunteers read with children at the Pickleweed Library for 1 hour per week on Tuesday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm. We ask for a minimum 3 month commitment.
Qualifications: Patience, ability to explain meanings, calm attitude, clear pronunciation, enthusiasm for reading, love of books and reading, experience working with children.
