Fire Station 52 and 57

In 2014, the City developed a comprehensive and operationally forward‐thinking Essential Facilitates Strategic Plan for the City of San Rafael.   The plan would guide the City through the replacement and/or seismic upgrade of the City’s essential facilities to ensure their ability to serve the community in the event of a major earthquake or other potential disasters. It was determined that Fire Station 52, located at 52 Union Street, and Fire Station 57, located at 3530 Civic Center Drive were past their useful life and should be replaced at their existing locations.  To achieve increased capacity, both stations will be enlarged to allow the placement of paramedic ambulances.  Additionally, because Fire Station 52 is the training site for the Fire Department, the new facility will include replacement of a training classroom and tower.

The construction project to demolish and replace Fire Station 52 and 57was awarded to Alten Construction, Inc. after the City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the City Manager to award the construction contract on April 17, 2017

On June 7, 2017, the City issued Notice to Proceed to Alten Construction, Inc. and Alten achieved final completion of the entire work on December 9, 2019.
