Juniper/bamboo Chipping and Collection Program
The San Rafael Fire Department (SRFD) sponsors a program to help reduce fire prone vegetation and provide better defensible space around your home.
The City of San Rafael adopted Ordinance Ch.4.12 with Vegetation Management Standards for parcels located in designated Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) areas. This ordinance requires that areas of defensible space around the home remain void of Juniper and Bamboo when located in high fire hazard areas.
Here’s what to do:
STEP 1: Contact SRFD’s Vegetation Management Specialists to schedule an on-site inspection at your residence to determine scale/need of the project.
STEP 2: After the inspection, contact your contractor to cut the Juniper and/or Bamboo in your yard that has been identified. (Note: Place material in piles accessible from the curb. Piles CANNOT include rock, dirt, or other debris).
STEP 3: Contact SRFD’s Vegetation Management Specialist to set up a date and time for the contractor working for the City of San Rafael to chip and haul it away at no expense to you!
