The San Rafael Community Center closed out the Recreation season this past weekend on a high note with two festive events that celebrated connection, creativity, and community.
Elf Jr. the Musical
Happy Lane Theater delighted audiences with a three-day run of Elf Jr. the Musical, a heartwarming holiday favorite that filled the venue with laughter, music, and plenty of Buddy’s joyful chaos. The production kicked off Thursday, December 11 with a lively opening night that drew more than 300 guests, with families and friends lining up out the door to join in the fun. Across all performances, the holiday cheer remained high as audiences of all ages enjoyed big laughs, memorable musical moments, and the warmth of a shared seasonal experience. The production was a joyful way to wrap up the final theater event of the Recreation season.
Goldenaires Afternoon Holiday Gala
Adding to the celebrations, the annual San Rafael Goldenaires Afternoon Holiday Gala, one of the final Recreation gatherings of the year, took place on Friday, December 13. More than 100 members came together for an afternoon of food, music, and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed a holiday turkey luncheon with all the trimmings prepared by Debbie Ghiringhelli Catering, followed by live music from the Don Santos Trio Band and a Winter Raffle Drawing. More than 17 prizes were generously donated by members and local businesses, including gift cards and restaurant certificates. With the help of 15 dedicated volunteers who assisted with setup, serving, and cleanup, the event reflected the strong sense of community that Recreation programs foster year round.
As the season comes to a close, these final events served as a meaningful reminder of the role Recreation plays in bringing people together of all ages. We look forward to welcoming the community back in the new year for more programs, performances, and opportunities to connect.
