The City’s administrative offices will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2018 in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. 24-hour operations will remain in effect for the Police and Fire Departments.

Action Plan

The San Rafael Age-Friendly Task Force is developing an Action Plan. The first step was to perform a SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat) analysis. Next, the group will conduct focus groups and focus on raising awareness of age-friendly issues in the community.

Strengths

  • Longtime homeowners
  • Residential senior care facilities

Weaknesses

  • Rents unaffordable
  • Not enough housing options for older residents
  • Older renters are being forced out

Opportunities

  • Shared housing, small units
  • Accessory dwelling units
  • Housing included in shopping malls and community centers
  • No-cost permits to adapt homes

Threats

  • Increasing numbers of older adults with dementia
  • Isolation of suburban homeowners when they stop driving / lose spouse
  • Lack of coordination and accessibility to services
  • Physical in accessibility
