San Rafael firefighters were dispatched to reports of a dwelling fire with smoke coming from a home’s garage. Upon arrival, crews found several trash bags of debris that had ignited. Fortunately, the home’s residential fire sprinkler system activated, extinguishing the flames and preventing the fire from spreading beyond the immediate area. The home and its contents sustained no fire damage, though there was light smoke throughout the residence. Firefighters used ventilation fans to clear the air, allowing the occupants to safely return inside. One resident who was home at the time sustained a minor hand injury and was treated on scene by firefighter-paramedics. After confirming the fire was fully extinguished, fire crews shut down the sprinkler system and removed the burned debris from the garage. The activated sprinkler head was replaced, and the system was restored to full operation. This incident highlights the effectiveness of residential fire sprinkler systems in stopping fires before they can cause significant damage or injury.
