INCIDENT SUMMARY
911 dispatchers received a report of an explosion and fire coming from an apartment complex. Upon arrival, firefighters found that one apartment unit was fully engulfed in flames. The sole resident who was home at the time along with two dogs, safely escaped uninjured. The apartment unit was two stories, so firefighters were battling flames on two levels while trying to protect other units from damage. Due to the size of the apartment complex, it took several SRPD officers to evacuate tenants from the other units. Officers escorted them to safety.

While one occupant has been temporarily displaced, remarkably all other units can be reoccupied once PG&E restores electricity and gas service. San Rafael fire investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.

1350 Lincoln Ave Fire
Thanks to the quick and coordinated response, the fire was brought under control within approximately 15 minutes.
Live power lines that had been severed by the fire were adding significant risk to firefighters as they had to negotiate around this energized equipment.

San Rafael Parking Services took on the task of closing Lincoln Ave, a busy thoroughfare in central San Rafael. Officers established detours and effectively rerouted motorists with minimal delay.
