The Marin County Regional Fire Dispatch Center received multiple reports of smoke coming from a unit in a large two-story apartment complex. Crews arrived to find a fire burning in the kitchen of a first-floor apartment and initiated an aggressive interior attack while additional companies confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated. The fire, which originated on the stove, had extended into the overhead cabinetry. Firefighters successfully contained and extinguished the blaze before it could spread further.
Fire damage was confined to the kitchen area, including the stove and cabinetry. Other portions of the apartment sustained smoke and water damage. The unit where the fire occurred was deemed uninhabitable; however, after approximately one hour, all other residents were allowed to return to their homes.
The five residents of the affected unit are currently staying with nearby relatives. The American Red Cross was requested to provide assistance to those who were displaced.
