Anyone travelling from the south on 101 with a destination in the East Bay or East San Rafael knows how frustrating it can be to wait in the queue to at the 101-580 off ramp with Bellam Boulevard. Right now, many drivers use Sir Francis Drake to get to the Richmond Bridge. The 101-580 off ramp with Bellam Boulevard has 1,000 vehicles taking a left onto Bellam to get into East San Rafael. Volumes and congestion are expected to grow and only get worse in the 20-year traffic projections. A team of professionals from the Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM), Kimley Horn, and Department of Public Works are looking at different scenarios to try to alleviate congestion issues and improve access in the future. On September 30, there was a field meeting with TAM, Public Works, Kimley Horn, the Chamber of Commerce, the Canal Alliance, and City Management, and Councilmember Llorens-Gulati to review the different scenarios and spend some quality time as a pedestrian on Bellam Boulevard.
