City of San Rafael Municipal Code Chapter 10.48 COMMERCIAL PEDDLERS, SOLICITORS AND INTINERANT MERCHANTS
Procedure:
Complete the application below and attach the following information:
1. California driver’s license, if any, or other photographic identification issued by a state or United States federal agency establishing the applicant’s age as eighteen (18) or older.
2. Two (2) recent portrait photographs that clearly and accurately depict the applicant’s current facial features.
3. A description of the goods, wares, merchandise, products, or any other thing or representation of value on consignment which will be the subject of the applicant’s peddling or itinerant merchant business or activity.
4. A description of the logo, color scheme, insignia, and any other distinguishing characteristics of any motor vehicle or mobile unit to be used in the applicant’s business or activities, including the license plate state and number for any motor vehicle.
5. The permit history of the applicant for the three-year period immediately preceding the date of the filing of the application, including whether the applicant has operated under any other business name in the city or has ever had any similar license or permit revoked or suspended or has been convicted of a violation of this chapter, and if so, the circumstances of such suspension, revocation or conviction. Copies of previously issued Permits or Licenses from other cities or counties.
6. Schedule and Complete a fingerprint check at the San Rafael Police Department.
7. Proof that your vehicle and merchandise is stored and cleaned in a maner that complies with all Federal, State and local laws.
8. Payment for the permit fee in an amount established by the City Council.
B. Permit--Term. Any peddler or itinerant merchant permit issued pursuant to this chapter shall be valid for a period of one year from the date of issuance. (Ord. 1811§ 3 (part), 2003).

For this permit, your location for storing mobile vending equipment must be pre-approved by the City of San Rafael Planning Department. Take the completed packet to the Community Development Department on the Third Floor of City Hall to determine if the location you have selected is zoned for the business you wish to conduct.
Fees:
The current fee for this permit is $180.00 and $35 for a renewal or replacement permit. Each additional owner is $89.00 and each additional location is $71.00 There will be an additional charge of $76.00 for fingerprinting for this permit.
