Green Building and Energy EfficiencyEarth image

On December 15th the voted in favor of updating the City’s green building regulations to require new energy efficiency standards. This will effect both new and remodeled residential and commercial buildings. This is a complex issue that involves many details of the size requirements and costs associated with new regulations. However, it is clear that while there may be some initial investment costs, residents and businesses will see overall savings in energy and water use. Some of our corporate partners, such as the Corporate Center, Northgate and the County’s Health and Wellness Campus have opted to build top rated green buildings even though they were not required. This is the growing trend among new commercial and residential development.  Other cities in Marin County are simultaneously going to their Councils to gain approval to give the effort a regional impact. Please take a look at this report to learn more about the Green Building, Energy, Retrofit and Solar Transformation (BERST).
