City Reduces Services and Staff to Balance Budget
Event date: Friday, May 29, 2009, from 1:29 PM to 1:29 PM

The City Council will hold a meeting on June 1, 2009 at 8 pm to discuss the General Fund budget deficit. Including the upcoming actions proposed for City Council approval next week, a total of 29 staff positions will have been eliminated over the past year, through vacancies, retirements, outsourcing or layoffs. The budget cuts result in service reductions such as:

  • 13 days of City facility closures due to furloughs
  • Decreases in park and street maintenance, as well as graffiti removal
  • Reduced services and materials at the Library
  • Elimination of exhibits and public events at Falkirk Cultural Center
  • Delays in obtaining various kinds of City permits
  • Reduced traffic enforcement, police services for the mentally ill and schools and other non-injury, non-emergency police calls
  • Decreases in the fire prevention open space vegetation management program.
