Yo-ho-ho and a book full of fun! Pirates of the Summer Readin’ are coming to the San Rafael Public Library!
2008 Summer Reading Program at the
San Rafael Public Library
Our 2008 Summer Reading Program begins on Friday, June 13th. The program ends on Friday, August 15th.
Summer Entertainment! Throughout the summer there will be special programs for preschool and school-age children.
Ahoy! What is it?
A free reading incentive program co-sponsored by the San Rafael Public Library and the Friends of San Rafael Library. Children read during the summer months and earn prizes.
Who can join?
Lads and lasses reading independently, Grades K – 8th.
How does the program work?
Mateys keep track of their summer reading on a reading log. Reading does not have to be done in the library, but when and wherever it is convenient. After reaching certain goals, mateys bring their reading log into the library to collect treasure.
Arrgh, me hearties, how much reading earns treasure?
Read 5 books or 250 pages or for 2 1/2 hours to earn a fabulous pencil.
Read 10 books or 500 pages or for 5 hours to earn a Round Table Personal Pizza Coupon.
Read 15 books or 750 pages or for 71/2 hours to earn a coupon to Color Me Mine, the paint your own pottery store.
Read 20 books or 1000 pages or for 10 hours to earn a drop-in pass to Play Well Teknologies, where there are hundreds of thousands of Legos and other building systems for you to play with; and a pass to Legoland.
Shiver me timbers! When does it start?
The Summer Reading Program begins on Friday, June 13th, 2008. The program ends on Friday, August 15th, 2008.
How do we sign up?
Go to the Children’s Room of the San Rafael Public Library, fill out a registration card and pick up a reading log.
Belay! Why join? (for parents)
Studies show that students who participate in a summer reading program are more likely to read on or above their grade level and or more likely to retain their skills into the next school year.
Why join? (for mateys)
It’s fun, fun, fun!
