Summer Safety Tips

  • Never use a Bar-B-Que in an enclosed space.
  • Keep the Bar-B-Que at least 10 feet away from a building or other material.
  • Never add lighter fluid after a fire is going.
  • Keep face and clothing away from flames.
  • Open lid carefully, turning your face away from the fire.

  • Seasonal Safety Tips

    • Change the batteries in all smoke detectors; use day light savings time as a reminder.
    • Check the spark arrester on your chimney-replace or install a new one if faulty.
    • Remove all tree limbs within 10 feet of your chimney and roof.
    • Clean roof gutters and downspouts .
    • Clean your chimney regularly and repair cracks
    • Check batteries in flashlights; be prepared for power outages.
    • Make sure any holiday lights, Christmas trees and decorations are fire safety approved.
    • Keep trees in water to reduce dry needles.
    • Check your car tires, windshield wipers and general maintenance to make sure your car is operating in optimal condition.
    • Clear overgrown and dead vegetation away from your house. Create a defensible space of at least 30 feet around your house to reduce fire risk.
    • Make sure your address is clearly visible and numbers are six inches high.
    • No fireworks of any kind are permitted in any area of Marin County.
    • Make sure a swimming pool is protected by a locked gate.
    • Do not Bar-B-Que on hot windy days. Always have a pail of water next to a Bar-B-Que.
    • Keep embers/ashes in Bar-B-Que for 48 hours before cleaning and dumping into a garbage container.
