The Department delivers real estate project planning and special event coordination throughout the City limits. The mission of the Department is to assist in the development and maintenance of the economic vitality necessary to provide jobs, housing, safe & attractive neighborhoods and a well maintained infrastructure.
The Economic Development Department provides staff support for the Redevelopment Agency, the Downtown Business Improvement District and the City’s Affordable Housing program. The Department also provides coordination for Special Events in the Downtown.
The City is moving forward with strategies designed to respond to the current recession. The Economic Vitality Workplan focuses on keeping local businesses strong and expanding and attracting new development and jobs to San Rafael. To counter our falling revenues, we must respond swiftly and appropriately to maintain the strength of our City while controlling costs and finding innovative ways to create new revenue.
