The Community Development Department is composed of three divisions: Planning, Building & Fire Prevention, and Code Enforcement.
The Planning Division is responsible for processing applications for new development and for long range planning of the City, including maintaining the General Plan which establishes policies for future growth and ensuring compliance with the provisions and regulations of the Zoning Ordinance
and the Subdivision Ordinance. The Planning Division provides staff support for the Planning Commission and Design Review Board. The Planning Division provides handouts to help make application process easier. The Planning Division can be reached during business hours (weekdays, 8:30am-5:00pm) at (415) 485-3085, or via email at planning@cityofsanrafael.org.
Please note that due to budget cuts and staffing reductions, the Planning Division Counter will be CLOSED on Tuesday and Friday afternoons (between the hours of 12:45 pm and 5:00 pm).
Please note that the BUILDING and CASHIER Counters ARE NOT AFFECTED.
The closure is effective Monday, August 10, 2009.
The Building Division is responsible for enforcing the various construction codes to ensure public safety. To contact the Building Division, please call (415) 485-3365 during business hours (weekdays, 8:30am-5:00pm).Click here for e-Permits.
The Code Enforcement Division enforces provisions of the Zoning Ordinance, Housing Code and other City Ordinances. The Code Enforcement Division can be reached at (415) 485-3097. Appointments recommended.
